How to Request your Medical Records
You have the right to request any data held by a healthcare institution under The Freedom of Information Act. This allows you to obtain copies of test results, comments, and your patient history directly from the health institution. However, please note that the medical records you receive should not be used as a substitute for medical advice or confirmation of diagnosis; this responsibility falls on your doctor. Nevertheless, this option is invaluable and often not widely advertised. For patients experiencing multiple symptoms across various disciplines, it is often necessary for patients themselves to provide updates to the different consultants and medical teams involved. Asking your consultant to include other consultants when sending out the post-appointment summary, typically sent to your GP, is a great way to ensure everyone is informed. Having a copy of the records for yourself provides an additional layer of insight that patients often don't have access to but is critical for understanding your own symptoms and conditions. Click on the relevant hospital below to be redirected to their site, where you will find detailed instructions on how to request your records. If you're having trouble locating specific hospital instructions, please let us know by contacting us via our Get In Touch form, and we will promptly provide you with the information you need.
Different Ways Technology Can Help
Social Media
Social media can be a great place to find support groups and communities where people share their stories and tips on dealing with various health conditions. Often, you will find others at different stages and receive real advice on managing your condition, finding relief from symptoms, and staying updated on the latest developments.

Connecting with others especially helps with feelings of isolation, knowing there are people who have been through similar experiences.

AI can analyse vast amounts of data and spot patterns that humans might miss. It can suggest possible diagnoses and treatment options, speeding up the process and providing direction on your next steps.
